Location in Saxony-Anhalt

Gehrhof is a residential area in the Behrend district of the Hanseatic city of Seehausen (Altmark) , in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Gehrhof is a farm in the Altmark . It is located four kilometers southeast of the town of Seehausen (Altmark) on the Biese river in the Wische .

Neighboring towns are Biesehof in the north, Falkenberg in the east, Dobbrun in the south and Behrend in the south-west.

history

Gehrhof was first mentioned on April 9, 1427, when Margrave Johann of Brandenburg and Burgrave of Nuremberg enfeoffed Hans Boldewin with the "hoff ctzumgere" located at the "felt mark czu Berne". On April 1, 1436, Margrave Johann Arnd and Otto Boldewin enfeoffed the court to “unden”, which belonged to the court “czumgere”. Further mentions are 1443 Gerhoff , 1518 de Gerhoff vp der Bese and 1608 Gerhoff . In 1745 there was a mill and a sheep farm at the Gehrhof knight's seat. The windmill stood at the southern exit of the town at the beginning of the 20th century, but was no longer there in 1932. In 1796 it was reported from Gut Alten-Gehre : “Actually only one outbuilding has excellent soil”. In 1804, two residents and a fisherman lived in the noble Gut Gehrhof . Because of the good soil, it is "used entirely for fat pasture". In 1807 the place was named as the hamlet Gehrhoff and in 1810 as the hamlet Gehrdorf in the canton of Bretsch in the Kingdom of Westphalia . In 1842 Gehrhof was described as a manor suitable for the Landtag on an island of the Biese.

The manor stands on the site of an old castle. From 1460 the farm belonged to the von Jagow family, from 1919 to 1921 to a community of heirs of Count Heinrich von Schlieffen, from 1921 to 1946 to the Schulte-Hiltrop family. In 1946 the owners were expropriated by the land reform and the land was given to 16 new farmers. Later the agricultural production cooperative “Gehrhof” managed the farm.

After 1990, members of the Schulte-Hiltrop family were able to acquire part of the expropriated buildings and lands from the Treuhandanstalt or their successor organization.

Origin of the place name

The name could have been derived from the German first name Ger or Gero .

Desert of Unden

According to a document from 1432, Unden was between Seehausen and Behrend. Wilhelm Zahn reported in 1909: “Now, almost 1 kilometer northwest of Behrend in the corridor of this village, the Räckendorfer Kossatenland was cut by the Stendal – Wittberge railway. However, there is no evidence of a deserted Räckendorf in this area, perhaps it is the old Feldmark von Unden, whose last inhabitants settled as Kossaten in Behrend. "

Incorporations

On September 30, 1928 was Gutsbezirk Gehrhof from the district Osterburg associated with the rural community Behrend. After Behrend was incorporated into Seehausen (Altmark) on February 1, 1974, the district of Gehrhof belonged to the town of Seehausen. Today Gehrhof is only listed as a place to live in the Seehausen district of Behrend.
