On the sand (Seehausen)

Auf dem Sande is a residential area in the Beuster district of the Hanseatic city of Seehausen (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The living space is just under two kilometers southeast of Beuster, 1½ kilometers west of the Elbe in the north of the Wische in the Altmark in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve .

history

The place was named after the sand that was deposited there after the dike broke near Unterkamps in 1567. There was a windmill there, the Frankesche Mühle on the sand . It got its name from the neighboring property, the Frankesche Hof in Ostorf No. 4 . In 1600 Christoph Franke was named as the owner of the farm. With the death of Dietrich Franke in 1813, the farm's existence came to an end. It is not known when the mill was built. It had always been leased from the Frankescher Hof to the windmill. The last windmill, Wendt, died in 1910. Then the mill was demolished and later the Mühlenberg was also removed. A farm was created from the mill property by purchasing land. Today the buildings are used for residential purposes.
