Wegenitz is a district of the Hanseatic town of Seehausen (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The place is three kilometers north-north-east of the Hanseatic city of Seehausen (Altmark) and eight kilometers south-south-east of Wittenberge in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve . In the west, the Aland flows north in the nature reserve Aland-Elbe-Niederung .
The neighboring towns are Esack and Ostorf in the north-east, Oberkamps in the east, Klein Holzhausen and Nienfelde in the south-east, Feldneuendorf in the south, Voßhof in the south-west and Am Aland in the north-west.
The Wegenitzer polder is how Johann Marchal writes a grave net behind the Aland dike in which the rain and Drängwasser collects.
history
The first written mention of Wegenitz dates back to 1430. Margrave Johann had Fritzel of Gagel, citizens in Seehausen with the "hope c to wegenitcz" mortgaged . Another farm belonged to the farm in 1499 and 1713, a free estate called Kuhbier . Further mentions are 1499 Wagenitz and 1687 Hoff zum Wagenitz . In 1804, Wegenitz consisted of two estates, a feudal estate and a freehold estate with 3 residents. According to Peter P. Rohrlach, the property was the Klein Wegenitz residential area and the Groß Wegenitz fief, which later both belonged to Klein Holzhausen. A second estate in Klein Wegenitz belonged to Leonid Freiherrn von Ungern-Sternberg in 1928 .
Incorporation and reclassification
Between 1868 and 1871 Wegnitz was divided into Groß Wegenitz and Klein Wegenitz. Groß Wegenitz remained with the rural community of Klein Holzhausen as a place to live , Klein Wegenitz was assigned to Seehausen.
On August 28, 1930, the Klein Wegenitz land came back from the town of Seehausen to the rural community of Klein Holzhausen. In 1931 the residential areas Groß Wegenitz and Freilut Klein Wegenitz were named.
On April 1, 1940, the amalgamation of communities and parts of other communities to form a new community with the name Beuster . The districts Groß Wegenitz and Klein Wegenitz as well as the districts Oberkamps and Unterkamps up to and including the irrigation with the Rühstedter Wiesen came to Beuster from the community of Klein Holzhausen . In 1958 there were Groß Wegenitz and Klein Wegenitz.
In 1985, Wegenitz was a district of Beuster. When Beuster merged with other municipalities to form a new municipality called Hansestadt Seehausen (Altmark) on January 1, 2010, Wegenitz became a part of Seehausen.

The Protestant Christians from Wegenitz used to belong to the parish of Klein Beuster and thus to the parish of Klein-Beuster near Groß-Beuster in the Altmark . Today they belong to the parish Beuster, which is managed by the parish area Beuster the church district Stendal in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
