Ungern-Sternberg
Ungern-Sternberg [ ˈʊŋɐn ] is the name of a German-Baltic noble family .
history
The von Ungern family, who belonged to the Baltic nobility, first appeared with Joannes dictus de Ungaria, when Nikolaus von Nauen , the bishop of Riga, enfeoffed him with 100 hooks of land in Zemgale .
The family initially spread to Estonia and Courland . Since 1593, the addition Sternberg was first used by members of the family in Poland-Lithuania . In 1819, the Swanenburg line from the Fistehlen tribe became part of the Badische Indigenat . In 1913 a branch of the family settled in the Kingdom of Saxony .
On May 16, 1533, there was an increase in the papal coat of arms and freedom of red wax as well as the imperial baron status for Jürgen von Ungern , Baron zu Pürkel. In 1653 and 1660 there were Swedish elevations into the baron of Ungern-Sternberg, and in 1885 the Russian recognition for the use of the baron title for the entire family. In the years 1882 and 1874, confirmations and elevations to the Russian count were made.
coat of arms
The von Ungern-Sternbergs carry the same coat of arms as the later barons, counts and princes of Lieven . In Westphalia , family members with a slightly varied coat of arms and the name form of Ungeren were recorded .
