Sven von Ungern-Sternberg
Sven von Ungern-Sternberg (* 7 February 1942 in Berlin ) is a German jurist , CDU - politician and former district president of the administrative district of Freiburg .
Life and work
Sven von Ungern-Sternberg, who comes from the noble family Ungern-Sternberg , holds a degree in economics and received his doctorate in 1973 from the University of Freiburg . After completing his studies, he joined the state service of Baden-Württemberg, where he was initially head of the social and transport department at the Emmendingen district office . In 1978 he was elected mayor of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau . He held this office for 20 years and shaped urban development during this time. During this time he was also chairman of the regional association for the southern Upper Rhine .
At the end of 1998 he was appointed regional president for the Freiburg administrative region by Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Erwin Teufel . During his tenure, he focused, among other things, on road construction and cross-border cooperation for the trinational metropolitan region of the Upper Rhine . Von Ungern-Sternberg was a member of Unique's advisory board ( Flughafen Zürich AG ) from 2001 until its dissolution at the end of 2003 .
During his term of office, the administrative structural reform in Baden-Württemberg fell, through which the formerly independent authorities police headquarters, secondary school office, state office for geology and mining as well as forest management were integrated into the regional councils. His term of office was extended to 2007 beyond the age limit. Julian Würtenberger was appointed his successor .
Party political activity
Von Ungern-Sternberg is a member of the CDU. He was chairman of the Junge Union Freiburg and became a city councilor in 1971. In 1973 he became chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the local council.
