The betapharm Arzneimittel GmbH was founded in 1993 in Augsburg founded. The pharmaceutical company sells generics (off-patent drugs) and is now one of the leading generics manufacturers in Germany . In March 2004 betapharm was sold to the British financial investor 3i . Since March 2006 the company has been part of the international pharmaceutical company Dr. Reddy's Laboratories , headquartered in India's Hyderabad .

The product range includes around 150 active ingredients in around 900 commercial forms and covers all essential indications from the common cold to severe cardiovascular disease . The prescription medicines focuses on the areas of heart - circulation , neurology and pain / palliative . The treatment of pain is also the focus of betapharm's over-the-counter medication (OTC).

Due to the new situation with the discount agreements, the range has been adjusted d. H. streamlined and the OTC area practically discontinued.

Social Commitment

The company has been involved in social and health care initiatives since 1998, making it one of the pioneers in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Petra Kinzl, the "front woman of the CSR movement in Germany" (Die Zeit, March 27, 2008) shaped and implemented the commitment. Betapharm has now received several awards for its social commitment. Thanks to its CSR strategy, betapharm grew from 15th to 5th in terms of sales within five years.

Initiatives

beta institute

The non-profit beta institute was founded in Augsburg in 1999 by betapharm and the Bunten Kreis eV. It operates numerous research and development projects and has meanwhile developed into one of the largest socio-medical research institutes in Germany. The beta institute has four areas of activity:

In terms of content, there are seven project areas in the institute:

  • betaCare knowledge system for sickness and social issues - for healthcare professionals (especially doctors and pharmacists)
  • betaCare Pain & Palliative
  • Pediatrics - aftercare for families with seriously ill children according to the Bunter Kreis model
  • mammaNetz - cross-sector support for women with breast cancer
  • Patient Network Stroke - Accompanying patients after a stroke
  • Papilio - educational program in kindergarten for the early prevention of addiction and violence
  • Case Management training for healthcare professionals

betapharm Foundation

The betapharm Foundation was established by betapharm in 1998 as a foundation under civil law . The aim of the foundation is to sustainably support and promote the health of children.

Awards for betapharm and its partners

  • In 2006, betapharm Arzneimittel GmbH was awarded the Citizens' Culture Prize by the Bavarian State Parliament for exemplary civic engagement .
  • In 2005, the label was betapharm Ethics in Business awarded
  • Bunter Kreis won the call sign health award in November 2003 !
  • In 2002 betapharm received 1st prize in the Initiative Freedom and Responsibility competition
