history
The book of arms is the first and most important work by Max von Spießen. An announced complete list of the family tables of the Westphalian nobility, as Spießen had announced, did not materialize. In his foreword the author writes:
“With the following pages I am sending the first delivery of the book of arms of the Westphalian nobility to the world. May it be kindly received wherever it arrives and find a permanent place. It is a work that has been compiled with endless effort, the fruit of many years of work. "
