Paul Kanut Schäfer

Paul Kanut Schäfer (born April 16, 1922 in Dresden ; † November 17, 2016 in Berlin ) was a German writer and screenwriter .

Life

Schäfer, son of the veterinarian and writer Kanut Schäfer , did military service from 1941 to 1945 after graduating from high school. From 1948 to 1951 he was an editor at the newspapers Junge Welt and Start, from 1957 to 1959 he studied at the Institute for Literature "Johannes R. Becher" in Leipzig. He became famous in the GDR with his novel Jadup , which served as a template for the DEFA film Jadup und Boel . He wrote the screenplay for the film The Ascent of Chimborazo together with Rainer Simon .
