Canoe shepherd
Kanut Schäfer (born March 15, 1894 in Mannheim , † February 7, 1971 in Michelstadt ) was a German veterinarian and writer who wrote several short stories, folk plays and plays in High German and Western Ore Mountains dialect. He also wrote a number of Erzgebirge songs , including the Wiegnlied or De Heiligobnd-Frad .
Life
Schäfer was a member of the government in Glauchau , Dresden and Zwickau . Most recently, he was the director of the employment office before moving to the seclusion of the forest in Fällbach , where he worked as a farmer for several years and managed the Fällbachhütte family pension . After the war he worked as a veterinarian in the Odenwald.
His son was the writer Paul Kanut Schäfer (1922-2016).
