history

The modern political districts of the Habsburg monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated.

The Žižkov district was initially part of the Bohemian Brod district or the Karolinenthal district . In the Karolinenthal district, the establishment of the royal vineyards judicial district was determined in 1876 from individual communities of the Karolinenthal judicial district . This change became officially effective on August 1, 1878.

The judicial district Žižkov was again created in 1889 by an ordinance of the Ministry of Justice, whereby three municipalities of the judicial district Royal Vineyards were merged into the judicial district Žižkov. On May 1, 1890, the District Court in Žižkov finally started its activity.

The Žižkov district was finally created on October 1, 1898, for which the Žižkov judicial districts from the Royal Vineyards and Říčan from the Bohemian Brod district were combined to form the new Žižkov district.

In 1900 the district accommodated 83,752 people who lived in an area of 238.00 km² or in 43 communities.

The Žižkov district covered an area of 237.99 km² in 1910 and a population of 102,514 people. In 1910, 1,633 of the population stated German and 100,333 Czech as their colloquial language. Furthermore, 548 people who speak other languages or who are foreign to the state lived in the district. In 1910 the district consisted of two judicial districts with a total of 44 municipalities and 53 cadastral municipalities.

In preparation for the incorporation of the city of Žižkov into Prague, the seat of the district administration was moved to Říčany in 1921 . In 1925 the district was renamed Okres Říčany / District Bezirkíčan.
