The district comprised areas in western Bohemia in today's Karlovarský kraj ( Okres Cheb or Okres Karlovy Vary ). Seat of the district administration was the city Teplá ( Teplá ). history

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated.

The district Tepl in 1868 from the jurisdictions Tepl ( Czech soudní okres Teplá ) and Weseritz ( Bezdruzice ) is formed.

In 1887 it was decided to establish an additional judicial district in Marienbad . For this purpose, ten communities were eliminated from the Teplá judicial district and merged with the city of Sangerberg from the Petschau judicial district to form the Marienbad judicial district. The establishment of the judicial district took effect on May 1, 1888.

In addition, on January 1, 1890, the municipality of Deutsch-Thomaschlag was assigned by the Plan judicial district to the Teplá judicial district and thus to the Teplá district.

After the judicial district of Marienbad was raised to the district of Marienbad on October 1, 1902 together with the judicial district of Bad Königswart ( Mariánské Lázně ) , the boundaries of the Teplá district were completely redrawn. Between October 1, 1902 and 1918, the Tepl district consisted of the judicial districts Beschau and Tepl.

Even as part of the newly founded Czechoslovakia and after the Munich Agreement of September 29, 1938, the Tepl district remained in existence. After German troops occupied the area in October 1938, it was elevated to the Tepl district on November 20, 1938 . After the end of the Second World War, the area became part of the Okres Cheb or Okres Karlovy Vary in Karlovarský kraj .

There were 30,256 people living in the Tepl district in 1869, with the district encompassing an area of 9.4 square miles and 72 parishes.

By 1890 the population rose to 36,410 people, while the area covered 57.4 km² with 87 communities.

In relation to the newly drawn borders of 1902, only 26,918 people lived in the district of Tepl in 1900 due to the elimination of the judicial district of Marienbad on 38.85 km². The number of parishes was also reduced to 62.

The Teplá district had a population of 26,559 in 1910, of whom 26,478 gave German and nine Czech as the colloquial language. In addition, 72 foreign speakers or foreigners lived in the judicial district. The area had not changed since the last census, but the number of municipalities had increased slightly to 63.
