The Marienbad District ( Czech : Okresní hejtmanství Mariánské Lázně, politický okres Mariánské Lázně ) was a political district in the Kingdom of Bohemia . The district comprised areas in West Bohemia (Okres Cheb). The seat of the district administration was the city of Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně, today Český Mariánské Lázně). The area has belonged to the newly founded Czechoslovakia since 1918 and has been part of the Czech Republic since 1993 .

history

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated.

The later area of the Marienbad district initially belonged to the Eger district or Bunzlau district and was divided into the judicial districts of Tepl , Beschau and Bad Königswart (initially "Königswart").

The area became part of the Tepl , Karlsbad and Plan districts in the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration from 1868 .

With the establishment of the Marienbad judicial district in 1888, the basis for the creation of the Marienbad district was laid down, the judicial district being formed from ten municipalities of the Teplá judicial district and the town of Sangenberg of the Bečov judicial district. The judicial district of Marienbad initially remained part of the Teplá district.

As of October 1, 1902, the judicial districts of Marienbad and Bad Königswart formed the district of Marienbad.

In 1910 the Marienbad district covered an area of 322.25 km² and a population of 31,993 people. In 1910, 31,656 of the inhabitants indicated German as their colloquial language. In addition, 14 Czech speakers and 323 foreign speakers or foreigners lived in the district.
