The village was first mentioned in 1357 when three mountain settlements were merged and Boresch V. von Riesenburg and Beschau took over the maintenance of a pastor for the church.

For a long time, the community with its mineral springs enjoyed great popularity as a health resort. From 1850 Sangerberg belonged to the judicial district of Bečov and in 1888 it was affiliated to the judicial district of Marienbad . In 1873 Bad Sangerberg had 2,400 inhabitants.

After the First World War , Sangerberg was added to the newly created Czechoslovakia in 1919 . Due to the Munich Agreement of 1938 came to place the German Empire and belonged until 1945 to the district Marianske Lazne , Region of Eger , in the Reich District of Sudetenland .

After the Second World War and the expulsion of the predominantly German population, the place was resettled and the Prameny military training area was created. After its dissolution the repopulation of the place began.

After 1989, the municipality became overindebted by buying apartments from the property fund, carrying out several test drillings and buying land for the construction of a well and a spa. The revenue from the sale of mineral water was forecast to be 19 million crowns (725,190.84 euros) annually. As a result of protests by nature conservationists and a citizens' association, the project failed and the investors withdrew, leaving the community in debt with 31 million kroner (1,183,206.11 euros). Due to over-indebtedness, the municipal assets were blocked. In the new elections that took place in January 2009, the long-time mayor Václav Brenner, who wanted to see the construction through to the end, was narrowly re-elected. Half of the municipal council consisted of members of the Sdružení nezávislých kandidátů electoral association, led by Brenner, and the SNK Prameny bez dluhů electoral association (Prameny without debt). This resolved after just two months. A little later the mayor fell ill and was unable to work for half a year. The election of the municipal council and the mayor, which was set for December 12, 2009, could not be carried out because not a single candidate was available. On December 13, an administrative officer was installed for Prameny. This initiated the foreclosure auction of the communal houses, the kindergarten, the former town hall and other communal assets.

Population development

Until 1945 Sangerberg was predominantly populated by German Bohemia , which were expelled.
