It is located eight kilometers north of Šumperk in the foothills of the Jeseníky Mountains and belongs to the Okres Šumperk . Velké Losiny is also known as a medicinal bath . The municipality is a member of the municipal association Svazek obcí údolí Desné .

history

Although the warm sulfur springs of Groß Ullersdorf are said to have been known to the Romans , it was first mentioned in 1351. It was sovereign rule and from 1496 initially as a pledge, from 1507 in the possession of the lords of Žerotín . On the site of a Gothic moated castle, John of Žerotín built a Renaissance castle with a magnificent arcaded courtyard, the outer walls of which are decorated with rich sgraffito ornaments.

Johann d. In 1592, J. von Žerotín ordered the construction of a bathhouse at the thermal baths. After the Battle of the White Mountain , Groß Ullersdorf went to the Liechtenstein family , from whom Johann von Žerotín was able to repurchase it after a short time. After the Thirty Years' War the castle was the scene of notorious witch trials .

The Žerotín kept Groß Ullersdorf until 1802. After that, it was again owned by the Liechtenstein, who were expropriated in 1945.

Velké Losiny: paper mill

In addition to the bathing business, the handmade paper factory, built in 1596, gained economic importance , the building of which was rebuilt in the late baroque style at the end of the 18th century. It is one of the few still preserved and still produces handmade paper using the traditional method. The building has housed a paper museum since 1987, which also demonstrates the manufacture of handmade paper.
