history
Olšany was first mentioned in writing in 1386, when Bolík von Olšany was entered in the land register as the owner of the estate. Later the village was attached to the Eisenberg rule .
After the abolition of patrimonial Olšany / Olleschau formed a political municipality in the Mährisch Schönberg district from 1850 . A turning point in the history of the mountain village, whose inhabitants lived from agriculture, forestry and homework, came in 1862 when a paper mill was built in place of the mill on the March below the village . The Olleschau paper factory, which initially produced writing paper and other fine papers , began producing cigarette paper in 1870 ; the plant developed into the largest employer in the region. In 1873 the railway line from Sternberg to Grulich was inaugurated.
In 1905 the paper factory was converted into a stock company under the name kk privilegierte Papier-Industrie AG Olleschau . Prosper Piette's paper mill in Freyheit on the Aupa held a third of the shares , the other parts were held by the kk privileged Österreichische Credit-Anstalt für Handel und Gewerbe . In 1907, the paper industry AG Olleschau, which was based in Prague , bought the silk and cigarette paper factory L. & O. Holub in Wattens . The company became the sole supplier of the Austro-Hungarian Tobacco Directorate . In 1914, the production of cigarette holders and tubes began in Olleschau. In 1930 there were 676 people in Olleschau.
After the Munich Agreement , the village was added to the German Reich in 1938 and belonged to the Mährisch Schönberg district until 1945 . In 1939 Olleschau had 703 inhabitants. After the end of World War II, Olšany came back to Czechoslovakia.
In 1980 Klášterec was incorporated. In 2001 the Olšany district consisted of 156 houses and 952 inhabitants.
The largest company is the paper mill OP papírna sro , which has been part of the Trierenberg Holding Delfort Group AG since 1997.
