Malá Morava (German Klein Mohrau ) is a municipality with 570 inhabitants in the Czech Republic . It is located on the southern slope of the Kłodzko Snow Mountains at a distance of approx. 8 km between the towns of Králíky and Hanušovice . The place is located in the valley of the Malá Morava (Little March) river , which flows into the March below the village and belongs to the Okres Šumperk .

history

Klein Mohrau was first mentioned in a document in 1350 when the diocese of Leitomischl was established . During the 15th century, probably due to the Hussite riots, the village and parish became extinct again.

In 1563, the Goldenstein lordship ordered the establishment of a new court mayor and had a wooden church built, which was used until 1621. After the Thirty Years War, 66 farms were managed in Klein Mohrau in 1677. A new church was built for the villages of Groß Mohrau ( Velká Morava ) and Woitzdorf (Vojtíškov).

In the district of Glasdörfel located above, a glassworks had been in constant operation since 1437 , making it probably the oldest in the whole area.

In 1834 the population of Klein Mohrau had grown to 913. In 1848 the place was assigned to the judicial district Mährisch Altstadt and the Mährisch Schönberger Hauptmannschaft. The remand prison for Pascher and later the customs station, which was established in 1876, was converted into a local school, but this was abolished in 2001.

The agricultural character of the place has been preserved to this day, only a pottery, a flax processing plant, a tannery and two mills have settled in industrial companies.

After the Second World War, the German residents were expelled. From 1949 the Hanušovice State Manor farmed the fields.

Because of a lack of work, more and more residents left the village, which was depopulated and deserted. The leather factory, a mill, the dairy and finally the pottery were shut down.

Attractions

The Rococo stone sculpture of the Immaculata from 1771 and the protected area of the Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary are two monuments that testify to the town's heyday.
