Sobotín (German Zöptau ) is a municipality in the Okres Šumperk in Olomoucký kraj in the Czech Republic . The municipality is a member of the municipal association Svazek obcí údolí Desné .

geography

Sobotín is located in the north of the Czech part of Moravia near the town of Šumperk ( Mährisch Schönberg ) and near the border with the historical part of Moravian-Silesia on the Merta River , which flows here through a valley of the Jeseníky Mountains .

history

Sobotín was first mentioned in 1351. It belonged to the noble family Zierotin . The theft of the host by the beggar Marina Schuch in the St. Laurentius Church in Palmarum in 1678 triggered the witch trials in Groß Ullersdorf . The director of the Wiesenberg estate , Joachim Stettenhofen , had an ironworks built in the 1770s and founded the Stettenhof ( Štětínov ) colony named after him .

In the 19th century, the Klein brothers built a steelworks in which components for bridges and railways were manufactured. In 1871/72, at the instigation of the Klein brothers, a railway connection was built via a branch line to the Moravian border railway. Until the end of the Second World War, the place belonged to the settlement area of ​​the German Moravians , who were expelled from here in 1945. After that, Czechs from the interior, Volhynian Czechs and Slovaks settled here . At the beginning of 2010, Petrov nad Desnou and Terezín broke up and formed their own community.

economy

The Klein brothers' iron works were located in Zöptau, where components of steel arch bridges or railway tracks were manufactured. Bicycles were also made here. Tourism is also important, mainly for domestic tourism.

The municipality of Sobotín consists of the districts Klepáčov ( Kleppel ), Rudoltice ( Rudelsdorf ), Sobotín ( Zöptau ) and the localities Nové Rudoltice ( Neu Rudelsdorf ) and Štětínov ( Stettenhof ).
