Velký Luh is located in the far northwest of the Czech Republic in Okres Cheb , nine kilometers northeast of Františkovy Lázně on the southern slope of the Elster Mountains .
The place Großloh was founded in 1726. The school was in Klinghart . From the middle of the 19th century, Großloh belonged to the judicial district of Wildstein and district of Eger . In 1900 the Tirschnitz – Wildstein – Schönbach local railway was established ; Großloh received a train station. The Jewish cemetery of the city of Fleißen , where Jews from Großloh are also buried , had been located between Großloh and Schnecken since 1895 . The cemetery was removed in the 1950s as part of the large-scale agricultural economy.
Since 1961 the parish of Velký Luh has been looked after by the parish in Křižovatka . Not far from the town there are several kaolin pits with deep blue water that are used for bathing.
