Semil District (Kingdom of Bohemia)

The Semil District ( Okresní hejtmanství Semily in Czech ) was a political district in the Kingdom of Bohemia . The district comprised areas in northern Bohemia in today's Liberecký kraj ( Okres Jablonec nad Nisou or Okres Semily ). The seat of the district administration was the city of Semil ( Semily ). The area has belonged to the newly founded Czechoslovakia since 1918 and has been part of the Czech Republic since 1993 .

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated.

The Semil district was formed in 1868 from the judicial districts Eisenbrod ( Czech soudní okres Železný Brod ), Lomnitz an der Popelka ( Lomnice nad Popelkou ) and Semil ( Semily ).

The Semil District lived 56,287 people in 1869, with the district covering an area of ​​6.2 square miles and 63 parishes.

In 1900 the district housed 58,021 people who lived in an area of ​​313.61 km² or in 60 communities.

The Semil district covered an area of ​​313.61 km² in 1910 and housed a population of 63,046 people. In 1910, 63,046 of the inhabitants stated Czech and 677 German as their colloquial language. In addition, there were 110 foreign speakers or foreigners living in the district. The district included three judicial districts with a total of 61 communities and 65 cadastral communities.
