Turnau district
The Turnau District ( Okresní hejtmanství Turnov in Czech ) was a political district in the Kingdom of Bohemia . The district comprised areas in northern Bohemia in today's Liberecký kraj ( Okres Liberec or Okres Semily ). The seat of the district administration was the city of Semil (Semily). The area has belonged to the newly founded Czechoslovakia since 1918 and has been part of the Czech Republic since 1993 .

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated.
The Turnau district was formed in 1868 from the judicial districts of Bohemian Aicha ( Czech soudní okres Český Dub ) and Turnau ( Turnov ).
In the Turnau district lived 44,037 people in 1869, the district comprising an area of 5.7 square miles and 55 parishes.
In 1900 the district accommodated 47,566 people who lived in an area of 330.75 km² or in 63 communities.
In 1910, the Turnau district covered an area of 330.72 km² and had a population of 48,186 people. Of the inhabitants in 1910, 45,479 stated Czech and 2,571 German as their colloquial language. In addition, 136 foreign speakers or foreigners lived in the district. The district included two judicial districts with a total of 63 communities and 64 cadastral communities.
