District of Wittingau

The District of Wittingau ( Czech Okresní hejtmanství Třeboň ) was a political district in the Kingdom of Bohemia . The district comprised areas in South Bohemia in today's Jihočeský kraj (Okres Jindřichův Hradec or Tábor ). The seat of the district administration was the town of Wittingau (Třeboň). The area has belonged to the newly founded Czechoslovakia since 1918 and has been part of the Czech Republic since 1993 .

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated.

The district Wittingau was formed in 1868 from the judicial districts Lomnitz an der Lainsitz ( Czech soudní okres Lomnice nad Lužnicí ), Wesseli an der Lainsitz ( Veselí nad Lužnicí ) and Wittingau ( Třeboň ).

In 1869 45,538 people lived in the Wittingau district, the district comprising an area of ​​14.2 square miles and 61 parishes.

In 1900 the district accommodated 47,994 people who lived in an area of ​​800.78 km² or in 78 communities.

In 1910, the Wittingau district covered an area of ​​800.77 km² and had a population of 48,825 people. In 1910, 47,383 of the inhabitants stated Czech and 1,375 German as their colloquial language. Furthermore, 67 foreign speakers or foreigners lived in the district. The district included three judicial districts with a total of 78 communities and 81 cadastral communities.
