Falkenau District (Kingdom of Bohemia)

The district of Falkenau ( Czech Okresní hejtmanství Falknov, politický okres Falknov ) was a political district in the Kingdom of Bohemia . The district comprised areas in western Bohemia in today's Karlovarský kraj ( Okres Sokolov ). The seat of the district administration was the town of Falkenau ( Falknov ). The area has belonged to the newly founded Czechoslovakia since 1918 and has been part of the Czech Republic since 1993 .

history

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated.

The Falkenau district was formed in 1868 from the Elbogen ( Czech soudní okres Loket ) and Falkenau ( Falknov ) judicial districts .

On December 2, 1913, the Elbogen district was separated from the Falkenau district and subsequently formed the Elbogen district .

59,422 people lived in the Falkenau district in 1869, with the district encompassing an area of ​​9.0 square miles and 43 parishes.

In 1900 the district accommodated 87,680 people who lived in an area of ​​499.25 km² or in 85 communities.

The Falkenau district covered an area of ​​499.21 km² in 1910 and housed a population of 95,995 people. In 1910, 1,361 of the residents stated Czech and 93,011 German as their colloquial language. Furthermore, there lived in the district in 1623 foreign speakers or foreigners. The district included two judicial districts with a total of 87 communities and 101 cadastral communities.

After the Elbogen judicial district was split off, the Falkenau district only comprised 291.59 km² and 54,237 people or 54 communities as of 1910.
