history

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated.

The Brandeis district on the Elbe was initially not an independent district, but part of the Karolinenthal district , which was formed in 1868 from the judicial districts Brandeis ( Czech soudní okres Brandýs ), Eule ( Jílové ) and Karolinenthal ( Karlín ).

The Karolinenthal district already lost large areas in 1878 with the establishment of the Königliche Weinberge district. With the separation of the judicial district of Brandeis on the Elbe and its elevation to the political district on October 1, 1908, the Karolinenthal district was finally further reduced and the Brandeis district on the Elbe was created.

In 1910, the Brandeis district on the Elbe covered an area of 303.67 km² and housed a population of 41,928 people. In 1910, 41,385 of the inhabitants indicated Czech and 409 German as their colloquial language. In addition, there were 134 people speaking other languages or foreigners living in the district. A judicial district with 55 communities and 56 cadastral communities belonged to the district.
