The judicial district of Matrei in Osttirol , formerly the judicial district of Windisch-Matrei , was a judicial district in the district of Lienz (state of Tyrol ). The judicial district was dissolved in 2002 and the area was subordinated to the judicial district of Lienz . The old district court of Matrei in East Tyrol is now a listed building.

Population development

The judicial district was founded under the name Windisch-Matrei, the original name of the market town of Matrei in East Tyrol until the early 1920s . It was one of originally three judicial districts in the Lienz district, with the Sillian judicial district also existing until 1925 in addition to the Lienz judicial district that exists today . The judicial district of Matrei included the Defereggental , the Kalser Tal , the Virgental and the upper Iseltal and the communities Hopfgarten in Defereggen , Kals am Großglockner , Matrei in Osttirol (only formed in 1939 from Matrei in Osttirol Markt and Matrei in Osttirol Land ), Prägraten am Großvenediger , St. Jakob in Defereggen , St. Veit in Defereggen and Virgen .

The judicial district of Matrei covered an area of ​​1005 km 2 in 1890 , and in 1923 an area of ​​1004.8 km 2 was designated for the area . The population of the area increased between 1869 and 1991 from 8,498 to 11,626 people. On July 1, 2002, the judicial district of Matrei in East Tyrol was dissolved and the area was assigned to the judicial district of Lienz.
