The judicial district of Sterzing was a judicial district in the Fürsteten Grafschaft Tirol, subordinate to the district court of Sterzing . The judicial district comprised parts of the Wipptal and its side valleys and belonged to the Bressanone district . After the First World War , Austria had to cede the entire judicial district to Italy .

history

The judicial district of Sterzing was created by a proclamation made by the State Court Introductory Commission in 1849 and originally comprised the 19 communities of Brenner , Gossensas , Jaufenthal , Mareith , Mauls , Mittenwald , Pfitsch , Pflersch , Ratschings , Reifenstein , Ridnaun , Sterzing , Stilfes , Straßberg , Telfes , Thuins , Trens , Tschöfs and Wiesen .

In the course of the separation of the political and judicial administration from 1868, the judicial district of Sterzing together with the judicial district of Brixen formed the district of Brixen . The judicial district had a population of 9,752 in 1869.

In 1910, 11,793 people were expelled from the judicial district, 11,509 of whom stated German (97.6%) and 57 Italian or Ladin (0.5%) as their colloquial language.

Due to the border regulations of the Treaty of Saint-Germain , concluded on September 10, 1919 , the judicial district of Sterzing was completely added to Italy, only the part of the municipality of Brenner remaining north of the new border remained with Austria and was incorporated into the municipality of Gries am Brenner .
