The Landeck district is a political district in the Austrian state of Tyrol .
It borders in the west on the Bludenz district of the state of Vorarlberg , in the east on the district Imst , in the north on the district Reutte and in the south on Graubünden ( Switzerland ) and South Tyrol ( Italy ).
geography
The district covers 1,594.53 km² the uppermost part of the Upper Inn Valley and the Kaunertal , Stanzer Tal and Paznaun valleys branching off from it . In the area of the district are part of the Ötztal Alps , the Samnaun group , part of the Verwall group , the Lechtal Alps and the Arlberg area .
history
The Landeck district was formed in 1868 from the Landeck , Nauders and Ried judicial districts . After the First World War, the parts of the Nauders judicial district that remained with Austria were merged with the Ried judicial district in Tyrol.
In 1978 the judicial district of Ried in Tyrol was dissolved and merged with the judicial district of Landeck. Since then, the Landeck district is congruent with the Landeck judicial district.
Economy and Infrastructure
The economy of the district is strongly characterized by the service sector, with tourism dominating. Important tourist centers are the Arlberg (St. Anton-Pettneu-Flirsch-Strengen), the Paznaun (See-Kappl-Ischgl-Galtür) and the sun terrace (Ladis-Fiss-Serfaus). Important industrial locations are Landeck, Zams and Pians. The largest production companies can be found in the food, textile and construction industries.
The district has the most kilometers of tunnels in Austria (around 65 km, mainly Arlberg road tunnels , Arlberg rail tunnels , Perjentunnel , Landecker tunnel ); therefore the voluntary fire brigade of the city of Landeck is one of the best equipped and trained fire brigades in Austria for tunnel fires.
The district has a relatively high proportion of out-commuters, with the main destinations being the neighboring Imst district and the Innsbruck area.
The Landeck district was particularly hard hit by the Alpine floods in 2005 . Large parts of the infrastructure were badly damaged or destroyed. The damage amounted to around 160 million euros.
The St. Vinzenz Zams Hospital is responsible for the medical care of the population and tourists of the Tyrolean Oberland in the districts of Imst and Landeck.

The Landeck district is divided into 30 communities , including one town and no market town. The population figures are from January 1st, 2020.
