history

1288 the place in princely will Urbar of Meinhard II. Of Tyrol-Gorizia first mentioned. In 1297 Fendels was mentioned as an exclave of the Hanseatic League . The Rhaeto-Romanic town center with brick houses built closely together has lost its original character due to fires in 1939 and 1972, but there are still typical courtyards in the area. Road construction in 1959 brought the remote village, which until then could only be reached by cable car, a connection to the outside. The construction of a ski lift gave impetus to the development of tourism.

Fendels was originally part of the judicial district of Ried in Tyrol and after the dissolution of the judicial district of Ried in 1978 became part of the judicial district of Landeck.
