history
In the prince's main land of Tyrol from 1406/12, taxes from the later municipality of See are mentioned for the first time under the Laudeck court. In 1433, See im Paznun was first mentioned in a document as "ze dem See in Pacznawn" (to the lake in Paznaun) . The year 1549 should then be the hour of birth of the municipality of See. See was mentioned in the Urbar as "Gmain Neighborhood". Due to the settlement of Serfaus and Fiss, the municipality of See belonged to the Laudeck court until 1791/92 (castle near Ladis ; court seat in Ried since the 16th century ). Since then, the municipality of See has belonged to the Landeck court .
In the Tyrolean wars of freedom of 1809, there was a battle between Bavaria and Paznauner Schützen in the "Giggler Tobel" east of See. 800 Paznaun riflemen prevented 1,500 Bavarian soldiers from entering the valley. The Seer curate Stephan "s'Stöffele" Krismer played a special role in this ; he and about 120 Seeber women let rock avalanches thunder down on the attackers.
Ecclesiastically, See belonged to the Serfaus parish until 1630. Until then, the dead had to be brought over the Furglerjoch (2748 m) to the cemetery of the Serfaus mother parish. The oldest ecclesiastical information about See comes from the year 1445 (first documented mention of a chapel). Around 1582 the Seelsorge See became a chaplain and around 1600 then a curate . Today's church of "Saint Sebastian" dates from 1758/59 and has been restored several times since then (most recently in 2003/04). See has been an independent parish since 1891 and belongs to the Deanery of Zams .
coat of arms
Blazon: obliquely divided by blue and silver; in blue a silver ibex horns, in silver five blue wavy bars.
The name goes back to a lake that once covered the valley floor in the area of the municipality. The municipal coat of arms (since 1975) is in blue and white and shows five wavy bars, which symbolize the name of the municipality, and a capricorn horn , which indicates the close association with the municipality of Serfaus , whose coat of arms also shows a horn.
