The Roman Catholic parish church See is in the municipality of See in Tyrol . The parish church of St. Sebastian belongs to the Deanery of Zams in the Diocese of Innsbruck . The church is a listed building .

history

The late baroque north-facing church off the valley road is in the village of See on the right side of the lower Paznaun valley . The church was mentioned in documents in 1445, rebuilt from 1758 to 1761, presumably rebuilt in 1770 and elevated to parish church in 1891.

architecture

The three-bay nave and the drawn-in two-bay round closing choir are vaulted with lancet barrels and decorated with vault paintings. In the choir is a medallion Christ appears to St. Sebastian by the painter Johann Wörle from 1759, the paintings in the stitch caps show the Sebastian legend. The nave has pillars with pieces of entablature and pilasters. The paintings in the nave were made by the painter Ludwig Sturm in 1930 . The two-storey west gallery was built in 1967.

The tower on the north side of the choir has high oval sound windows in the upper octagonal structure and above it an onion helmet with a lantern. On the main gable side is a porch with a baroque statue of St. Sebastian from the middle of the 18th century, above a round medallion with a fresco of Mary.

Furnishing

The baroque high altar from the end of the 19th century bears a high altar relief. Sebastian is tied by a tree , the figures on the side are Peter and Paul, the coronation of Mary in the excerpt, and evangelist reliefs on the antependium.

The left side altar has Baroque acanthus carvings and twisted columns and bears a Baroque figure of the Crescent Madonna from the 18th century and the side figures of Isidor and Notburga from the 19th century. The figures Anna and Joachim from the end of the 17th century are attributed to the sculptor Andreas Thamasch. Further figures Francis and Antonius from the end of the 17th century. The reliefs of the Nativity on the Predella and Christ in Emmaus on the Antependium are from the end of the 19th century.

The right side altar bears the baroque figure Johannes Nepomuk around 1700 and the figures Aloysius, nun, and the relief Death of St. Josef from the end of the 19th century on the antependium.

The pulpit was built in 1760 by the sculptor Josef Georg Witwer and shows figures of the 4 evangelists on the basket, a figure of Christ and putti with symbols of the three Christian virtues on the sound cover. The back mural Moses painted in 1840 by the painter Alois Grissemann.

A statue of Sebastian around 1690 is attributed to Andreas Thamasch. The sacristy door is from the 17th century. The organ front with rococo carvings was created by the organ builder Johann Anton Fuchs around 1790, the present organ was created by Reinisch-Pirchner in 1966 . Bartlme Graßmayr cast a bell in 1696.

The cemetery chapel opposite the church was rebuilt in 1964. The crucifix around 1675 is from the circle of Andreas Thamasch. The Pietà from the mid-18th century is attributed to the sculptor Johann Ladner.

The Widum near the church is a baroque two-storey building under a crooked hipped roof from the 2nd half of the 18th century.
