Stanz bei Landeck is a municipality with 581 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the district of Landeck in the state of Tyrol ( Austria ).

geography

Stanz is located about 200 meters above Landeck at the foot of the Lechtal Alps on a low mountain range. Stanz also gives its name to the Stanzer Tal , which leads from Landeck to the Arlberg region .

history

The first settlers settled in the protected location of Stanz around 4000 years ago. Stanz, then called stanuc, was first mentioned in a document around 1150. The village was the original parish of the entire valley basin. The Burg Schrofenstein opposite the castle Landeck monitored the site and was at times a legal court.

The “Zum Löwen” inn, decorated with baroque paintings, was the home of the builder Jakob Prandtauer , whose main work is the new building of Melk Abbey in Lower Austria .

economy

• The Stanzer plums are well-known , the cultivation of which finds favorable conditions here due to the numerous hours of sunshine. Stanz and the neighboring towns are known as the location of the schnapps distillers. The local fruit is processed into fine brandies (schnapps) in over 60 distilleries. Some of the many distillers in town have received awards for their products. Since 2005 the village has had the title “ Plum Plum Plum Region ”.
