history

The modern, political districts of the Habsburg Monarchy were created in 1868 when the political and judicial administration was separated. The later district of Schlanders initially belonged to the district of Meran , which was formed in 1868 from the five judicial districts Meran , Glurns , Lana , Passeier and Schlanders .

The district of Schlanders finally came into being on October 1st, 1901, when the judicial districts of Schlanders and Glurns were separated from the district of Meran and merged to form the district of Schlanders.

In 1910 the district of Schlanders covered an area of 1364.89 km² and housed a population of 22,068 people. In 1910, 21,900 of the inhabitants stated German , 44 Italian or Ladin and 124 another language as their colloquial language or were alien to the state. Due to the border regulations of the Treaty of Saint-Germain , which was signed on September 10, 1919 , the Meran district was completely slammed into Italy.
