Tarsch ( Italian Tarres ; South Tyrolean Toorsch ) is a fraction of the municipality of Latsch in South Tyrol , Italy .
geography
The village with 690 inhabitants is located in the Vinschgau on an alluvial cone on the orographically right , southern side of the Adige Valley . The village is located at the foot of the Nördersberg , which is protected in the Stelvio National Park , at around 800 m above sea level. The municipality capital Laces is around 1.5 kilometers northwest. The townscape is characterized by numerous streets and alleys, which is why Tarsch is also known as the village of a thousand streets. In the past, the alleys were used for irrigation by directing water onto the fields. The alleys were paved early on so that the water was not lost through evaporation and seepage.
history
First mentioned in a document in 1235 as “de Taro”, although the place is probably much older due to its fertile location on an alluvial cone. Tarsch has been devastated several times in its history by debris flows . Until 1927 Tarsch was an independent municipality and became part of the municipality of Latsch as part of the fascist municipal reform of 1927, with which over 2000 municipalities with less than 2000 inhabitants in the Kingdom of Italy were incorporated.
