history

The place was first mentioned in 1262 as " Colsonum " and possibly means the rowan tree called " Culici " in local dialect . Prehistoric finds above the village indicate an early settlement. In Roman times the Via Claudia Augusta passed Galsaun. Stones from this street can still be seen in buildings. Hochgalsaun Castle belonged to the Lords of Montalban . The building was destroyed by Duke Friedrich IV in 1423 and remains in ruins to this day.

The Thurngut of the Lords of Schlandersberg dates from the 15th century , documented in 1477 as " Turnn gutt lies zu Galsawn ".

climate

Due to the central island location in the Alps and the high surrounding mountains, the precipitation is only 500 mm per year, not more than the amount of precipitation in parts of Sicily. The mean annual temperature is approx. 10 °. Summers are warm and Mediterranean, with most rainfall in summer; which favors the cultivation of Mediterranean plants such as kiwis, figs and palms. The winters are cool and have little rainfall.
