The Strada Statale 38 (SS 38) is an Italian State Street , 1928 between the SS 36 in Colico and Bolzano has been set. It goes back to the Strada nazionale 30 established in 1923 and a section of the SN 25. Its length is 224 kilometers. Because of its course over the Stilfser Joch it received the title "dello Stelvio". In 2009, the first section of the expressway went into operation, which starts at the SS 36 and bypasses the following towns to the north. It is to be built as far as Morbegno . In the further course the SS 38 from Sondrio was placed on a southern bypass. The SS 38 was also built as a bypass between Tirano and Bormio . Several tunnels were created. Another expansion section is located between Merano and Bolzano in the form of an expressway, called " MeBo ". The administration of the South Tyrolean parts of the road (typically a distinction is made between MeBo, Vinschger Staatsstraße and Stilfser-Joch-Straße) was transferred from ANAS to the South Tyrolean provincial administration in 1998 .
