Sondalo (dt. Outdated: Sundal) is a municipality with 4043 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Sondrio ( Lombardy ). The parish belongs to the mountain community Alta Valtellina.

geography

Sondalo is 47 km northeast of Sondrio , directly on the state road 38 between Sondrio and the Stilfser Joch . The neighboring municipalities are Grosio , Valdisotto and Valfurva .

  • The large complex of the Regional Climatic Regional Hospital of Bormio and Sondalo and Hospital and Sanatorium Eugenio Morelli.
  • Sanatoriums of Villaggio Morelli and Pineta di Sortenna, the first Italian sanatorium founded by Ausonio Zubiani, built in Liberty (1903).

  • Provost church of Santa Agnese with fresco of the crucifixion (XIII century).
  • Santa Marta Church with frescoes Storie di Santa Marta by Giovannino da Sondalo (15th century).
  • Old church of Sant'Agnese (11th century) with Romanesque frescoes.
  • Church Apparizione della Vergine alla Biorca in the district Mondadizza preserved the painting Madonna and Child with Saints Cipriano Valorsa.
  • Small church in the Serravalle district, it belonged to the monastery of Sant'Abbondio of Como , and in the apse has frescoes (1494) and traces of others from the Carolingian and Ottonian times.
  • Church of San Bartolomeo di Castelàz in the hamlet of Morignone, preserves frescoes Storie della Passione di Cristo by Giovannino da Sondalo (15th century) and others in the presbytery by Cipriano Valorsa.
