Tartano is a municipality ( comune ) in the Italian province ( Lombardy ) with 195 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Valtellina .
geography
The municipality of Tartano is located in a side valley of the Valtellina, the Val Tartano . The Val Tartano is divided into two main valleys, the Val Lunga and the Val Corta . The Val Corta divides at Barbera into the Val Budria and the Val di Lemma.
The municipality is located about 16 kilometers west-southwest of Sondrio at the Parco delle Orobie Valtellinesi and borders directly on the province of Bergamo . The neighboring communities are Albaredo per San Marco , Foppolo (BG), Forcola , Fusine , Mezzoldo (BG), Talamona and Valleve (BG).
history
The municipality of Tartano was one of the most severely affected by the flood disaster in the summer of 1987. On July 18th, the Hotel La Quiete was destroyed by a mud and debris avalanche. In the disaster, 11 tourists died and there were injured. Together with the landslide in Valdisotto , the storm left 53 victims and dozens of places destroyed.
Attractions
On September 22, 2018, the Bridge in Heaven ( Ponte nel cielo ) was inaugurated in Campo (Campo Tartano, about 1000 m above sea level ). The Tibetan footbridge is 234 meters long and 140 meters above the river bed of the Tartano River. It connects the hamlet of Campo with the town of Frasnino , on the other side of the Val Tartano valley .
