Grosotto

Grosotto is a municipality with 1670 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Sondrio in the Lombardy region and is located in the Upper Valtellina .

geography

The neighboring communities are Grosio , Mazzo di Valtellina , Vervio , Monno and the Swiss communities Brusio and Poschiavo .

Attractions

The place has few sights as it has been looted and burned down many times in its history. The parish church is dedicated to St. Eusebius, next to it there is a chapel dedicated to St. Rocco and an oratory. The Palazzo Omodei was the seat of the Robustelli family, who were wealthy in the area. Their most prominent representative was the knight Giacomo Robustelli , one of the leaders in the Veltliner murder and during the Bündner turmoil temporarily governor of the Valtellina.

In 1487, the community built the Santuario della Beata Vergine delle Grazie to celebrate the sparing of the village by the Graubünden people, which was attributed to a miraculous intervention by Mary. The current building dates from the 18th century.

The Alte Trotte (18th century) and the Osmetti mill, still in operation today, are also strange.
