history

Early days

The traces of settlement go back to the 3rd century BC. BC back. The ravages of time are gnawing at the antiquities, as there is little money for the maintenance of the buildings and frescoes. The Torre Deli Beli Mirre towers above the place, from there you have a good overview. The church of Sant'Eufemia in the center of the village combines several architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque.

Reformation and Counter Reformation

In Teglio and Boalzo, some families belonged to the Protestant faith from around 1589 and claimed a share in the Catholic Church and the church property. The ruling Bündner supported this request. From 1619, the Protestant joint use of the church met with massive resistance from Catholics. On Sunday, July 19, 1620, Giacomo Robustelli and his troops moved to Teglio, where Azzo and Carlo Besta, two local nobles, joined the conspiracy. Under her leadership, the Reformed were surprised during the service. The resistance of some brave people in the church tower was quickly overcome by setting the tower on fire. The murder of Anton Besta, "the most pious, richest, and best qualified nobleman in the whole country," the closest cousin of Azzo and Carlo Besta, finds special mention in contemporary sources. The Reformed Graubünden pastor Jan Peider Danz , who worked there, was also murdered. In Teglio, 62 people died in the so-called Veltliner murder , which killed a total of 600 Protestants in the Valtellina. Only a few were able to escape.

Modern times

The city is a member of the Cittàslow movement, which was founded in Italy in 1999, to slow down and improve the quality of life in cities.
