Poggiridenti is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1852 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Sondrio in Lombardy .
geography
The municipality is located about 4.5 kilometers east-northeast of Sondrio on the Adda in the Veltlin Valley. The neighboring municipalities are Montagna in Valtellina , Piateda and Tresivio .
history
The community is first mentioned in the 12th century; at that time the area called Pendolasco was a court of the municipality of Tresivio. The name of the Da Pendolasco family, which assumed the status of noblewoman in the 16th century, is also derived from the place name. According to the documents signed by Bishop Feliciano Ninguarda, there are around 600 inhabitants in Pendolasco in 1589. Plague and famine ravaged the area at least until the end of the seventeenth century. The first demographic rise and improvement in economic conditions are confirmed in 1706. During the Napoleonic period, the area was part of the Cisalpine Republic and, after the Congress of Vienna, the Kingdom of Lombardy-Veneto , like the entire province of Sondrio. In 1816, the Pieve of Pendolasco separated from Montagna and became an autonomous municipality. In 1861, after the Second War of Independence , it became part of the Kingdom of Italy .
traffic
The Strada Statale 38 dello Stelvio leads through the municipality coming from Piantedo over the Stilfser Joch . The train station of Poggiridenti together with the neighboring communities Tresivio and Piateda is located on the Ferrovia Alta Valtellina .
