Jan Peider Danz

Jan Peider Danz (* around 1575 in Zuoz ; † July 20, 1620 in Teglio ; also Johann Peter Danz ) was a Swiss Reformed pastor who was murdered in 1620 during the Veltliner murder .

Life

Jan Peider Danz was born around 1575 in Zuoz, a municipality in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . He attended the Zurich Latin School from 1590 to 1594 . He then studied philosophy and theology at the University of Basel . In 1596 he finished his studies with a bachelor's degree . From 1597 he was a teacher in his hometown. The next year, the University of Basel awarded him a master's degree.

In Chur , Danz was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod in 1600 . In connection with this he was allowed to serve as pastor in Celerina , but the next year he moved to Teglio in the Valtellina . In the course of the Bündner turmoil and during the Veltliner murder, Danz was murdered together with 61 Protestants on July 20, 1620 in Teglio.
