Kastelbell-Tschars ([ ˌkastl̩ˈbɛl-tʃaˑrs ]; Italian Castelbello-Ciardes ) is an Italian municipality with 2286 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Vinschgau in South Tyrol . The municipality has a 50 km wide network of marked trails and is home to a total of four castles and residences: Juval Castle , Kastelbell Castle , Ansitz box and lock Hochgalsaun.
Since 2005, the community has been connected to the public rail network through the reopened Vinschgau Railway with the Kastelbell (located in Marein) and Tschars stops .
geography
Kastelbell-Tschars is located in Vinschgau . The settlements of the municipality are distributed on both sides of the Adige , partly in the valley floor of the Adige Valley , partly on a slope. Kastelbell ( 600 m ), Galsaun ( 575 m ) and Tschars ( 636 m ) are on the orographic left , northern side of the valley. In the slopes of the offer Sonnenberg of scattered settlement Trumsberg (1350- 1600 m ) space. On the opposite side of the Adige are Marein ( 600 m ) and Latschinig ( 660 m ) and - on the rising slopes of the behind Nördersberg - the farms of Freiberg (850- 1300 m ) and Tomberg (650- 1300 m ).
North side, there peaks rise of the Oetztal Alps , which here for Saldurkamm (including the to be expected Trumsspitze , 2914 m ). The ridge falls to the east into Schnalstal , the entrance area near Juval partly belongs to the municipality of Kastelbell-Tschars. On the south side, the Adige Valley is dominated by peaks of the Zufrittkamm of the Ortler Alps (such as the Hohen Dieb , 2730 m ).

- The Waalweg is described in numerous hiking guides. This is a popular walk for both locals and tourists.

Viticulture
With 25.5 hectares, Kastelbell-Tschars is the largest wine-growing community in Vinschgau. The valley, which runs in an east-west direction, is characterized by a dry microclimate with less than 500 mm of annual precipitation, many hours of sunshine, warm days and fresh nights. This climate favors viticulture and the terroir in and around Kastelbell-Tschars. Viticulture plays a role in the following groups: Kastelbell, Galsaun, Tschars and Juval. Grapes of the varieties Chardonnary, Pinot Blanc, Rauländer, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Vernatsch, Zweigelt and Pinot Noir ripen.
