Enneberg ( Ladin Mareo , Italian Marebbe ) is an Italian municipality in the South Tyrolean Dolomites with 3118 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). Marebbe belongs next to Corvara , Abbey (Ladin Badia ), Wengen (Ladin La Val ) and San Martino in Badia (Ladin San Martin de Tor ) of the five Ladin municipalities in the Val Badia . The German name is traced back to the meaning "from beyond the mountain".

geography

View of St. Vigil

Enneberg is the largest municipality in Ladinia (161.34 km²) in South Tyrol . The most important settlement areas are in the Marebbe Valley (also Vigiltal , Val de Mareo ), a trending southeast tributary of the lower Val Badia ( Val Badia ), where the main town of San Vigilio (1130- 1250  m slm , Al Plan ), the fractions Hof (1280 1300  m , Curt ), Montal (1090 1120  m , Mantena ) and parish (1260 1310  m , La Pli de Mareo ), as well as typical for the area Weiler ( viles are). In Val Badia itself, where the Gader ( Gran Ega ) and the Vigil Bach ( Rü d'Al Plan ) flow together, are the group between water (1000- 1030  m , Longega ) and east increased about Plaiken (1240- 1280  m , Pliscia ). Also on Enneberger area contains areas west of the Gader, including the fraction Welschellen (1370- 1450  m , Rina ) and parts of the Untermoitals ( Val d'Antermëia ), branching off from the Gadertal southwest. The rest of the Untermoital towards the Würzjoch ( 2003  m , Ju de Börz ) and the part of the Gadertal adjacent to the south belong to the neighboring municipality of St. Martin in Thurn ( San Martin de Tor ), the lowest section of the Gader Valley to the north is already outside the Ladin Language area in the municipality of St. Lorenzen .

View from the Fanes Alm to the Neuner, Zehner and Heiligkreuzkofel

The municipality of Marebbe, in particular the areas that extend far to the southeast to the border with the province of Belluno ( Veneto ), comprises large areas of uninhabited mountain areas in the Dolomites , which are largely protected in the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park . The Enneberger Valley narrows increasingly in a south-easterly direction and runs from St. Vigil, from now on called Rautal ( Val dai Tamersc ), completely uninhabited between high cliffs. The mountains of the Fanes Group extend south of the valley, which is shielded from the neighboring municipality of Wengen by the Pares ( 2396  m , Sas de Crosta ) . At the end of the Rautal, the Marebbe municipal area bulges south into the extensive area of the Fanes plateau and the approximately circular peaks surrounding it; Counterclockwise and starting in the north you will find: Antonispitze ( 2655  m , Piz de Sant'Antone ), Neuner ( 2968  m , Sas dles Nü ), Zehner ( 3026  m , Sas dles Diesc ), Heiligkreuzkofel ( 2907  m , Sas dla Crusc ), Piz Lavarela ( 3055  m , Piz de Lavarela ), Piz Cunturines ( 3064  m , Piz dles Cunturines ), Cima Scotoni ( 2874  m ), Monte Cavallo ( 2911  m ), Monte Casale ( 2898  m ), Monte Castello ( 2817  m ) and Col Bechei ( 2794  m ).

The Enneberger part of the Braies Dolomites extends north of the Enneberger and Rautal valleys . The Sennes-Alm is located directly north above the end of the Rautal . This is dominated in the northeast by the Seekofel ( 2810  m , Sas dla Porta ) and in the northwest by the Muntejela de Senes ( 2787  m ). In the north-east of the Enneberger Tal there is the Dreifingerspitze ( 2479  m , Col Alc ), the Piz da Peres ( 2507  m ) and - separated from the aforementioned by the Furkel Pass ( 1789  m , Ju de Furćia ) - the Kronplatz ( 2275  m , Plan de Corones ).

To the west of the Gader, Enneberg still has a share in the gently pronounced Lüsner Mountains in the area of the Lüsner Alm . The most important peak there is the Maurerberg ( 2332  m , Chi Jus ).

Enneberg can be reached all year round via the Gadertalstrasse, which begins in the north of the Puster Valley in the Bruneck area and from there leads south to Zwischenwasser, where the road to the main town of the municipality, St. Vigil, branches off. There is also a pass road over the Furkelpass, which connects St. Vigil in a north-east direction with Olang in the Puster Valley. The opening of the pass road over the Würzjoch, which connects the middle and lower Val Badia to the west with the Brixen area in the Eisack valley , depends on the snow conditions .

history

Hof (Ladin Curt ) in the 1960s

The old capital Enneberg - first mentioned in a document as " Ennepergs " in 1039 - was for a long time the central court of the Sonnenburg monastery in Val Badia . Beyond the municipal boundary in Runch (Wengen) there was a dépendance of this court for simple disputes. The old Gothic judges' house is still preserved.

Enneberg belonged to the judicial district of Enneberg until the end of the First World War and was part of the district of Bruneck . The district court had its seat in the district of Sankt Vigil.

education

Enneberg is the seat of a school district in Ladin. This includes the three primary schools in St. Vigil, Welschellen and “Jepele Frontull” in the parish, as well as the middle school in St. Vigil. The three primary schools and the middle school in the neighboring municipality of St. Martin in Thurn are also connected to the school district.

Legends and rascals

  • The municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo (which is also Ladin ) borders on Enneberg to the east . With this, there were often border disputes over the pastures and meadows of Sennes. A divine judgment should settle the dispute. Four Ampezzans lifted a heavy stone over their heads and began to carry it west towards Enneberg. It was agreed that the border between Ampezzo and Enneberg should be where they would have to throw this stone when they finally ran out of strength. What the Ennebergers didn't know was that the Ampezzaner were in league with the devil. They had superhuman strength and carried the stone further and further towards Pederü . A dairy woman from Marebbe shouted in horror: “Jesse, they are taking the whole of the pasture from us!” When the word “Jesus” was spoken, the devil's magic failed, the stone fell to the ground and buried the four Ampezzaner. Today it marks the border between Enneberg and Ampezzo.
  • The abbess of Sonnenburg monastery , the sovereign of Enneberg, once gave a feast for her followers and farmers in Enneberg. But with all the food and drink she made an embarrassing and noisy mishap. With presence of mind, one of the men jumped up, pretended to be, and apologized to the meeting. As a thank you, the abbess gave him the “Bühl” farm, which has been called “Pfurzbühl” ever since.
