Primary school (South Tyrol)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In South Tyrol , primary school covers the first five years from the age of six onwards. “Elementary school” is the official translation of the Italian “scuola primaria” (historically “Scuola elementare”). In former times it was called an elementary school according to Austrian custom .

In 1990 there was a transition from the one-teacher principle to team teaching, in which sometimes several teachers teach one class at the same time.

The reform, valid from 2006/2007, provides for a core area with 816 annual hours per school year, a mandatory quota reserved for schools with 102 annual hours (except in the first grade), and an optional area with a maximum of 102 annual hours. Since the school year normally comprises 34 weeks, this is 24 + 3 + a maximum of three hours per week from the second school year. Of these, up to five hours are in Italian in the German-speaking primary schools. In the Ladin schools, teaching is carried out in all three national languages; in some Italian primary schools, teaching in German has been significantly expanded in individual classes on an experimental basis. Teaching in the mother tongue is regulated in the Second Statute of Autonomy by Article 19 and by Implementing Regulation No. 301 from 1988, which confirms a regulation that has been in place since the end of the Second World War.

At the time of fascism, German-speaking schools were banned in South Tyrol (see Katakombenschule ).
