Municipalities of the Ladin core area

The name Ladinien ( Ladin and Italian Ladinia ) refers to a geographical area in the Dolomites in northern Italy . Ladinia is the main settlement area of the Ladins .

Concept history

The term was probably coined in the 19th century as a name for the Ladin-speaking Val Badia; the section of the German and Austrian Alpine Club founded in Corvara in 1886 was called Ladinia . As a result, there was a significant expansion of the scope of meaning, which now includes other Ladin core areas around the Sella Stock in addition to the Val Badia : Val Gardena in South Tyrol , the Fassa Valley in Trentino as well as Buchenstein and often also Cortina d'Ampezzo in the province of Belluno ( Veneto ). The name "Ladinien" is now well established in tourism and sometimes also in scientific literature. It is also used by the public broadcaster Rai Ladinia .
