Heiligkreuzkapelle Rasciesa
The Heiligkreuzkapelle Raschötz in Ortisei in Val Gardena is a mountain chapel on the Raschötzer Alm .
history
In a letter to the consistory in Brixen , the curate of Villnöß Christoph Karl Schenk reported in 1746 about a large, miraculous crucifix on Rascifix. In 1752, at the suggestion of curate Dominikus Pineider, the first chapel was built on the place of the Raschötzer Cross by the people of Ortisei. However, this was soon destroyed by lightning.
In 1755, the wealthy Jakob Christoph von Ingram from Laion had the chapel built today. On November 24th, 1789, Josef Sebastian Aichner, curator of the Gufidaun court , reported that the chapel, which had been closed as a result of the Josephine reforms , had been reopened by the population. In 1846, thanks to the contribution of Marianna Moroder-Purger from a rich family of merchants from Ortisei, the chapel was subjected to a comprehensive restoration.
In 1885 the chapel, which was badly damaged by the high alpine weather, was restored by the German and Austrian Alpine Club . In 1956 the chapel was completely renovated and a fence was added to protect it against grazing cattle.
On July 9, 2012 the chapel was protected as a monument. On September 16, 2012, the chapel, restored by the rifle companies in Ortisei and Laion, was inaugurated by the former abbot of the Neustift monastery, Chrysostomus Giner .
