Canazei ( Ladin Cianacéi , Kanzenei ' ) is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 1,881 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Trento , region of Trentino-South Tyrol . It belongs to the valley community Comun General de Fascia .

geography

Canazei is located about 67 km north-northeast of Trento in Val di Fassa on the orographic right side of the Avisio . The community is one of several Dolomites mountains surrounded, as in the east of the Marmolata- , north of the Sella and northwest of the Sassolungo . The winter and summer tourist destination is a junction of the Dolomite passes (four-pass trip around the Sella massif ( Sellaronda )). From Canazei, the Pordoi Pass leads into the Buchenstein Valley with Arabba , the Sella Pass into the Val Gardena to Selva di Val Gardena . You can also reach Malga Ciapela , Rocca Pietore and Alleghe in the province of Belluno ( Veneto region ) via the Passo Fedaia . The municipality of Canazei borders on that of Campitello di Fassa , Mazzin and San Giovanni di Fassa as well as on the South Tyrolean municipalities of Selva di Val Gardena and Corvara and on the Bellunese municipalities of Livinallongo del Col di Lana and Rocca Pietore.

The Marcialonga cross-country skiing marathon , one of sixteen runs in the Worldloppet series, runs through Canazei . Canazei is one of the starting points for the Sellaronda, the circumnavigation of the Sella massif on skis.
