history

Buchenstein was first mentioned in a document in 1027 .

Between 1897 and 1900 the fortresses of La Corte, Ruaz (demolished) and Tra i sassi ( Valparola Pass ) were built by the Austrians. Until the end of the First World War , the area belonged to Austria-Hungary as part of Tyrol . In 1915 the area was evacuated during the war and the places that were in the combat area on the Austrian-Italian border were badly destroyed. Through the Treaty of Saint-Germain , Livinallongo came to Italy together with South Tyrol and was annexed to the province of Belluno in 1923. In 1933, Benito Mussolini added “del Col di Lana” to his name, which was confirmed in a municipal referendum in 1983 organized by the Veneto region.
