Life

At the age of eight he was sent to the Pustertal as a shepherd to learn German. At the age of fourteen he went to Ortisei in Val Gardena to train as a sculptor with Alois Kostner Slujuc. He then worked with Josef Obletter zu Juaut and finally with Rico Moroder, until he ran his own workshop in Ortisei.

He attended the art school in Ortisei in Val Gardena with Vinzenz Moroder-Resciesa and Herrmann Moroder-Jumbierch. During the First World War he was sent to the front on the Col di Lana near his home in Buchenstein . He and two of his comrades came under an avalanche from which he was able to save himself with his own hands. He often carved larger-than-life wooden figures in the expressionistic-realistic style of the thirties. One of his most famous students was Vincent Peristi .
