As part of the option , he moved to Munich in March 1940 with his wife and son Bruno. He worked there in Josef Thorak's studio. At the same time he attended the academy there again. However, according to his son Bruno, after failing to greet Hitler during a visit to the workshop, he was sent to the Russian front, where he died. There is an extensive photographic documentation of two meetings between the artist and Luis Trenker .
