Luis Insam
Luis Insam also Luis Insam-Tavella (born January 19, 1901 in Ortisei in Val Gardena ; † July 25, 1950 there ) was a South Tyrolean sculptor . He stands in a long tradition of sculpture in Val Gardena .
Life and work
Luis Insam was the son of Alois Anton Insam (Levisc Antone) and Maria Moroder, daughter of the painter Josef Moroder Lusenberg . He learned sculpture in his father's workshop together with his brother Rudolf.
Insam produced a wide range of models of genre figures for the Val Gardena wood carving company ANRI. He trained over 40 apprentices in his workshop. Adolf Vallazza and Heindl Moroder were his students. At times his brother-in-law Vinzenz Peristi also worked in his workshop.
Insam made a larger than life crucifix for the Col de Flam in Ortisei.
Exhibitions
- In a commemorative exhibition on the 10th anniversary of Luis Insam's death in 1960, 43 of his sculptures by the artist group Ruscel were shown in the “Dolomiti” cinema in Ortisei .
- Numerous works by Luis Insam are exhibited in the Val Gardena Museum.
